Mrs May Bell Remembered

Mrs May Bell, a member of the congregation for over 77 years, died on the 1st August 2024 at the age of 94. May was baptised in the Airdrie Reformed Presbyterian Church at the age of two and was converted at the age of seventeen under the preaching of Rev. J. T. Moffett Blair and then became a member of the church.  This was in 1946. She married Sam Bell in 1958, they were married for over 65 years. May was a loyal, caring, and loving wife to Sam. She supported him faithfully in his work as an elder in the congregation. May served the Lord in several ways in the church.  She worked with the Sunday School children, as an assistant treasurer, and afforded generous hospitality to visiting ministers and other visitors to the church, and offered help in many other areas of church life. Over the last few years, May’s general health deteriorated and, having suffered a number of falls and broken bones, she spent a number of occasions in hospital.  Her trust in God and belief in Him sustained her through these trials.  May passed away peacefully at Coathill Hospital on Thursday 1st August 2024.

At her funeral on the 13th August, Rev. Stephen McCollum preached on 2 Corinthians 5:1-8 and Ecclesiastes 7:1-5. He made the point that a funeral is an opportunity to lay to heart the truth that death comes to all, and this is both a warning to the unbeliever and a comfort to the believer as they know that it is best to be at home with the Lord. Please keep Sam and the wider family in your prayers during this time of great loss.
