GO Team & Mission Services

It looked like we weren’t going to have a GO Team this year because no one had applied, but a few weeks before the team was due to start, Campbell and Trinity Quigley from Carrickfergus RPC and Matteo Plebiscito from Glasgow RPC signed up. Campbell, Trinity, and Matteo are well known to us having been on multiple GO Teams in the past and even coming over in the summer to help our summer mission team in previous years. Campbell also grew up in the Airdrie church. We were delighted to see them and quickly put them to work.

The Team ran from the 1st-9th April, and after arriving on Wednesday morning they spent the afternoon putting up posters advertising our upcoming Mission services in shops around the town. On Thursday we got started distributing leaflets through letterboxes advertising our Mission. We had 25,000 leaflets this year, and we paid Royal Mail to do a leaflet drop of 20,000, leaving us 5,000 to get out. Thankfully Thursday was a lovely sunny day and the Team along with others in the congregation were out in the morning and afternoon. Thursday evening we had a congregational prayer meeting to pray for the Mission services. Rain kept us from distributing on Friday morning, but the Team were able to help with some jobs around the church. We were also joined on Friday by Matteo’s sisters, Emanuela and Angelica, who come to our Girls Group. More distribution with the congregation happened in the afternoon and evening until the rain came on and we had to call it a day. Saturday was another full day of distribution.

We were thankful for the rest of the Lord’s Day, and the sermons helped focus our minds on the great need for the Gospel to go out in our town. We had a congregational lunch which gave us time to spend fellowshipping with each other. Monday and Tuesday were full with more distribution and more posters put out, and the final leaflets were given out on Wednesday before the team headed home. We are thankful for the team and those in the congregation and from Glasgow RPC who helped with distribution and providing food for the Team.

The Mission ran Wednesday-Friday nights and then Lord’s Day morning and evening. Rev. Stephen McCollum preached on The Offensive Jesus: Why People Struggled With His Message and Still Do. His texts were from various Gospel passages where Jesus’ listeners were offended by different things He said. We had several visitors each night. We had folks from our Drop In Cafe, from Kids Club, from other churches in the town, friends, family members, and some folk who either received a leaflet or saw the banner. Please continue to pray that the Holy Spirit will work through the Word that was preached.
