A Busy Week With the GO Team
The Airdrie Go Team ran from the 19th – 24th April. The team consisted of four members (Matteo Plebiscito, Campbell Quigley, Rosaleen Blair and Abigail Lightfoot). The team arrived on Saturday, and we began our time in Airdrie with door-to-door outreach.
This was a great opportunity to connect with people living in the surrounding areas of the church, putting a friendly face behind the leaflet (an invitation to the upcoming Mission services). The most meaningful moments came from the harder conversations, particularly with those who shared about recent losses and personal struggles. These interactions gave us the chance to invite them to the mission services, where five different messages of love and hope would be shared throughout the following week. While not everyone was receptive, the team was really encouraged by how many people were open to conversation and interested in what we had to share.
Sunday’s Bible class focused on Question 106 in the Westminster Shorter Catechism. We worshipped with the Airdrie congregation in the morning and evening. We also attended the Wishaw afternoon service in between the two Airdrie services. It was exciting to be able to support the ministry and to see how God is working in Wishaw.
Both Monday and Tuesday were mostly spent leafleting.
On Monday night, I, Abigail, and Abby P had been asked to share our testimony with the Girls Group, while the boys continued to distribute more leaflets. It was a blessing being able to share how I came to know Christ, and to enjoy fellowship with the girls.
On Tuesday, we had a couple of extra hands in leaflet distribution as we were joined by James and Courtney Hargreaves and Trinity McConnell.
On Wednesday we had one distribution session in the morning, followed by a Reformation Tour. Our amazing tour guides, Jimmy and Helen Fisher, took the team to various important sites in Covenanter history. The tour started with the Battle of Bothwell Bridge memorial and finished with the monument in memory of Rev John Macmillan. The team were then treated to a takeaway.
On Thursday morning we had one final distribution session. Altogether the total number of leaflets distributed was 27,000, the team handed out around 10,000 leaflets of these leaflets, and the Royal Mail delivered just over 17,000 leaflets to the small villages surrounding Airdrie.
A big thank you to Zoe, Eloise, and Knox for helping out with the leaflet distribution and for keeping the team entertained during our stay! Thank you to the whole Airdrie congregation for the kindness you have shown to us and for your great hospitality.
There is lots to be thankful for this year: the beautiful weather, the fruitful conversations we had on the doorsteps of people’s homes, and the extra help we received from members of the congregation as well as the Royal Mail! Please continue to pray for the town of Airdrie; that God will continue to work in the hearts of those who have received a leaflet. Pray that God would bless the work at Wishaw and guide how this ministry will progress.
