February Good News

The February edition of Good News is now available to download.

From the Editorial:
Our contemporary issues article takes a look at one of our more distinctive positions as a denomination – our attitude towards secret societies. Some parts of Scotland may be more affected by this topic than others, however, it is good for us to be aware of the reasons behind our stance, and we hope to see other Reformed churches coming to share the same position. Dr Barry York has written a very worthwhile article on personal covenanting which challenges us to consider this hugely neglected discipline.

We are starting a new series in the Church History section which will run through 2025, dv. Dr Nathan Eshelman is going to be giving us some lessons from the lives of Christians in the Patristic period. This early period of church history is perhaps not as familiar to our readers and so I hope you enjoy meeting in this issue a believer who was born over 1900 years ago!

Our historical reprint article was written in 1834 at a time when many were emigrating to the new world in the hopes of greater properity and opportunities. The mission committtee of our denomination wrote to Reformed Presbyterians who had moved to Canada to give some practical instructions. Whilst the situation in Canada is different today (and we are very thankful to have a growing sister church there – surely an answer to the prayer of the letter!) the principles of the letter apply today and challenge us about whether we consider the importance of the church before moving to new places.
