February Good News
The February edition of Good News is now available to download.
2024 is a significant year in the Airdrie congregation – 200 years ago was the ordination of the first minister of the congregation, Rev. Thomas Halliday. I have decided to reprint a memoir about his life over the course of the year, which gives you an insight not only into his personal history (the story of a Godly minister), nor even just the history of the Airdrie congregation, but also it will let you see how things were in our denomination 200 years ago. I hope that you enjoy it.
Tim Donachie helps us to consider the issue of faith deconstruction. I don’t know about you, but I am seeing an increasing number of acquaintances leave Christian churches and begin a journey of apostasy called faith deconstruction. To watch it is heart-breaking, but we must be clear in our thinking if we are to help others affected by it.
I am thankful for Reformed Presbyterian ministers from other countries helping us out by taking up the pen (or keyboard) for our instruction. Our practical section takes up a new series of particular Christian duties in congregations, and we plan to have a different author for each. Rev. Paul Wallace gives plenty of good advice about Christian Fellowship. Rev. Joey Dunlap continues his interesting series on 1650s Scotland. A new feature in this edition is Religious Terms Defined, written by Rev. J. G. Vos. This was a helpful feature in Vos’ Blue Banner magazine where he worked alphabetically to explain Biblical and theological words in a simple way. You can expect to see this run over the next few years, such was the volume of his work!
I shouldn’t fail to mention our regular contributors: Ian, Jimmy, Peter, and (from behind the scenes) Beth. Thank you for your diligence in writing for us.
I hope that you benefit from this February edition. Once you’ve finished, try to encourage others to read it too!
