RP Mission Team – Week Three
Monday morning the team met early at Peter and Emma’s house in North Edinburgh to hand out the last of the leaflets. There were few left and we finished off some close neighborhoods we weren’t able to finish previously. With the remainder of the leaflets we went to surrounding neighborhoods and finished what we had. In the evening was the first of the outreach services, all the services were focused on hope. Peter decided upon hope in large part because of Covid and the communities reaction to it. One man came to the Monday service who had been to services on Easter when a previous Go Team was handing out leaflets for it. It was wonderful he came back and he’d end up hearing God’s word at all 3 services.
On Tuesday the majority of the day was taken by the Reformation Tour lead by Jimmy and Helen Fisher. We saw the Reformation sights around Edinburgh, a number of them sadly being graveyards. It was a great reminder of what commitment to Christ’s kingdom truly looks like. Tuesday night the second service was had, the focus was hope for the stressed. More people came on Tuesday including the family that printed the leaflets for us and let the church use the community centre for worship. This was a great blessing, the church had been praying them for many years, and there’s a reasonable expectation to keep seeing them attend services on Lord’s days.
On Wednesday the last of the sights Edinburgh had to offer were seen. The evening service was a nice ending to the team’s stay in North Edinburgh. Some friends of the congregation unfortunately weren’t able to make it to the services, but we got promises of making it on the Lord’s Day, an even better prospect which we prayed the Lord might work through. Wednesday evening we came back to Airdrie.
Thursday through Saturday started Holiday Bible Club preparations in Airdrie. This included setting up decorations, preparing talks, crafts, snacks, and games. Mary Perkins and Sean Bird came and helped out during this time: Mary coming over before heading to Ireland’s Senior Camp and Sean before continuing with his holiday. Sean’s power washing and Mary’s electrical knowledge weren’t replaceable. Other projects were done during this time, these included work on the manse and taking down some walls to conjoin rooms in the church.
Saturday also brought a 20’s and 30’s young adult barbecue. Glasgow sent the majority of people. Good Christian fellowship was had and was quite refreshing for the team. The following Lord’s Day more was seen of the Glasgow members as there was a conventicle being hosted by Airdrie. The conventicle was advertised on social media which the Lord used to bring in more visitors. It was a pleasant time despite the wind and light rain. A wonderful sermon was preached on Revelation with wonderful stories of our Covenanter forefathers emphasizing the importance of being willing to lay down your life for your faith.
